Not a post about TV!!!

So I haven’t posted in several weeks… that’s because I’ve been busy with none other than work.  Now I’m not busy (I’m on vacation)(yes we TV people take those every once in a while).  I’m sitting at my parents house in Kansas on their super slow computer, which will most likely delete this post before it ever makes it to the world.

To be quite honest… I’m not really sure what to say on here if I’m not talking about TV or Radio or anything dealing with the media.  I will say I got satellite radio for Christmas this week, and I LOVE IT!!!!  I don’t think I’ve ever been so anxious to get in my car and drive somewhere!  It’s really a great medium to own, especially if you’re a traveler.  It’s like having cable TV for your car… well… minus the whole TV part… which would lead to the whole crashing and burning part.  The day is coming though when we will have cable TV or most likely satellite TV in our cars… that’ll be the day.

Ok, so here I am again… talking about the media.  I really lead a quite uneventful life.  I’ve really enjoyed seeing my family though.  You never realize how important family is until you live eight hours away and only see them three times a year.  It makes time a lot more important that you do spend with them.  Alright… that’s the end of my sappy talk.

I don’t have much more to write and it’s getting to be somewhat late… so I’ll close this with a picture of the coolest little nephew in the world.  He got a GAP sweatshirt for Christmas… among other things.  He was more interested in the barn yard kick pad that plays animal sounds than my GAP sweatshirt.  One day he’ll learn the importance!!  Alright, I’ve got a good book on Richard Engle’s 5 year’s in Iraq with NBC waiting for me to read.  Ah, it’s a sad life but someone’s got to do it.

Amazing Interview…

This is one of the best interviews i’ve seen done… probably ever.  This is an interview by Anderson Cooper on CBS’s 60 Minutes with Michael Phelps… ok who doesn’t want to watch an interview with Phelps?  I love how casual the interview is.  Check out the part when the two are talking about the calories he eats and how much sleep he gets.  Here’s a link to the story.  Sorry, I’m still trying to learn how to embed video.

Why CNN is better than Fox News…

Ok, I’ve been having this conversation with a friend of mine who also happens to be a TV reporter as well. She seems to think Fox News is better than the cable News Network. I respectfully disagree with that statement. I’m sure many of you out there will disagree with me as well… feel free. Here are five reasons why CNN is better than Fox News:

1. CNN has a network of correspondents working around the world to cover stories on a global level. In fact, CNN is only second to the BBC in the number of employed journalists and bureaus worldwide. Fox News has Rupert Murdoch’s Sky TV in London… great.

2. Anderson Cooper might just be one of the greatest journalists of all time. Shep Smith… I don’t think so.

3. CNN does not feel the need to fill everyone of their shows with an attractive blonde or someone who will rip the head off a interview “because it makes good TV”.

4. CNN does real, important news. Not “news” like the latest on Britney Spear’s rehab or Madonna’s divorce.

5. Documentaries such as Planet in Peril which dedicate teams of journalists to travel the world and produce amazing, informed stories about our world. What is FN doing in the way of documentaries??

CNN, better than Fox News. Comments please…

Have a pulse? Get your own TV show!

Man V. Food airs on the Travel Channel

I’m a huge fan of the Travel Channel and the Discovery Channel. Favorite shows: Anthony Bourdain, No Reservations and Mythbusters. Those two shows are well written and produced as well as entertaining and interesting. C’mon, who doesn’t like traveling to far away places or stuffing a pig carcass in a car to see if you can take the stench out?

I do have a bone to pick though. The latest show on the TC is Man vs. Food. Are you serious?! Some idiot gets a show where we tune in and watch this guy eat an eight pound hamburger. I’m sorry but that’s just about the most stupid thing I’ve ever heard. I don’t understand why talented journalists and TV personalities are stuck working the streets, reporting the beats for 15 seconds of acknowledgment when there are idiots who literally eat their way onto cable television.

Man V. Food airs on the Travel Channel

I’m sure Man vs. Food isn’t the only train wreck of a TV show on the air right now, but that’s the one I’m exposed to and roll my eyes at every time I see a idiotic promo with this dude holding up a donut the size of his head. The world of TV is so screwed up and backwards! GIVE PEOPLE WITH REAL TALENT THE CHANCE TO HAVE A TV SHOW!!! Enough said… comments please.

The future is here… get on or get left behind.

I’ve tried to blog before… unsuccessfully.  There are at least a half dozen abandoned blogs with my name attached to them… littering the internet.  What makes me think this one will be any different?  In this age of blogging and twittering and being obsessed with updating our status on facebook… we’re a society of people who like to stick our noses into everyone else’s business.  Isn’t technology grand?!  Now bloggers have a seat at the table as legitimate journalists.  I don’t know how I feel about that… but instead of fighting the world of the blogger… I have decided once again to join it.

I hope I can write insightful… helpful… and informative blogs for anyone interested in reading them.  I won’t try and lie… since this is MY blog… most of the stuff written in it will be stuff that I’m interested in.  That is such a wide range of things… there’s no telling what will show up.  So… in this world of the internet… if you don’t get on board… you’re most certainly going to get left behind.  Comments please…
